The nervous system is a complex system that regulates and coordinates body activities. Problems related to the nervous system can cause different symptoms, depending on the area which is involved in the problem.

Causes

  • Injuries especially to the head and spinal cord
  • Infections of the brain or membranes surrounding the brain or spinal cord
  • Overuse of some medicines
  • Some diseases like Parkinson's disease, Multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease etc.
  • Problems which occur at the time of birth
  • Mental health problems
  • Brain tumour
  • Organ system failure like Respiratory failure, Kidney failure, Heart failure etc.
  • High blood pressure
  • Nutritional deficiencies
  • Problems related to blood supply

Symptoms

  • Sudden, severe headache
  • Change in the level of consciousness
  • Confusion
  • Numbness, tingling, weakness, or inability to move a part
  • Visual disturbances like blurring double vision, or loss of vision in one or both eyes.
  • Loss of speech, trouble talking, or trouble understanding speech.
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Unsteadiness or the inability to stand or walk
  • Seizures
