Migraine

Migraine is a neurovascular disorder i.e. it results from the combination of blood vessel engorgement, which further causes release of chemicals from the nerve fibers, which are present around these blood vessels.

It is very common type of headache which is intense, throbbing and pulsating in nature. It is a chronic condition with recurrent attacks and women are more prone than men to have migraine. Sometimes person feels visual disturbances like a blind spot, blurred vision, eye pain etc. as a warning sign that an attack of migraine is coming. Causes

Cause

Following are the reasons which can trigger migraine

  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Strong odours
  • Smoking and alcohol
  • Lack of sleep
  • Skipping meals
  • Change of weather
  • Exposure to light
  • Hormonal changes in women

Symptoms

  • Throbbing or pulsating pain in the head
  • The pain may be felt behind the eye or in the back of the head and neck.
  • Pain is worse on one side of the head
  • Feeling mentally dull
  • Nausea and vomiting 
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of appetite
  • Numbness, tingling or weakness
  • Sensitivity to light or sound
  • Sweating
  • Increased urination
